IMG_2823Welcome to Spring 2013, certainly doesn’t feel it yet but most of us are starting to feel that our skin is beginning to change slightly. Okay mine is ‘-)

During the cooler months our skin tends to be a little more drier because of many factors like heating systems, the extreme changes from hot to cold, drinking less water etc and often there is an increase in skin sensitivity. Now that the climate is changing, our skin can sometimes change with it. Just like mine is doing at the minute. In the warmer months, some of us feel that the skin starts to produce more oils and this is perfectly normal.

Currently I am using my “Normal Range” from REN Skincare with a few added products from the ‘Dry Range” to address my ‘winter skin’ issues and now it’s time for a ‘skin spring awakening’ programme. My skin is not quite yet on the oilier side of normal, but I am beginning to see more and more open pores on my nose (a clear sign that I am probably dehydrated) and a little shinier in the afternoons.

I am not quite ready to change my entire skin care programme. All that I am doing now is dropping the products for dry skin and simply introducing REN Clarifying Toning Lotion to my morning and evening bathroom rituals.

For many years, REN never had a toner in their ranges per say, as the real reason to why toners exist was to remove the residue or the build-up left on by make-up and cleansers. This is usually from ingredients used in the formulas like mineral oil or silicone. REN Skincare doesn’t use any pore congesting ingredients such as petrochemicals et al, so there is no real need to use a toner after cleansing. Yes, I will agree that toners have come a long way since they were first introduced, but if you invest in a really good cleanser that cleanses and tones at the same time, you won’t need to spend more time and waste money on using another product. Clever right???

Clarifying Toning Lotion. Clarifying Toning Lotion. 'No Stamp' philosophy.

Now why this particular product. It’s simple. It is not only a toner, but it exfoliates, brightens, hydrates, reduces pore size and contains anti-bacterial properties. Easy to use, immediate results and I absolutely love the fresh clean smell. Suitable for anyone really who have concerns with excess oils, but check if you have an intolerance to AHAs or natural ingredients before trying this product.

How does this Clarifying Toning Lotion work? Often oily and combination skin types looks dull and can sometimes be congested due to improper natural exfoliation. This is caused by excess sebum not allowing for the dead skin to naturally flake off. To help with this, Clarifying Toning Lotion contains gentle yet powerful fruit AHAs (Pineapple, Passion Fruit, Lemon, Grape) and Salicilin (Willow Bark) that will exfoliate and encourage skin renewal while leaving the skin purified and decongested. Mayblossom will act as an astringent to reduce pore size and will act as an anti-bacterial agent to prevent mild breakouts from occurring.

Easy to use: on cleansed skin, I normally give 2 to 3 squeezes on to a cotton pad and give a gentle wipe across my face and really focusing more on areas that are prone to producing more oils. Then I apply my moisturiser and I’m done. I use this product both in the mornings and evenings.

There are so many reasons as to why I really enjoy this product but the main reason is, I get that really clean feeling afterwards without that annoying feeling of dryness and tightness often when using toners. Also the toning lotion contains some fab ingredients like Pineapple extract, Passion Fruit extract and Salicilin from Willow Bark to name a few…

So if this sounds like what your skin is currently going through, try my little remedy and get that fresh looking skin for spring.

Here’s the video I did explaining about this product for REN Skincare.
